Tecnimont has secured two EPC contracts for the petrochemical expansion of the SATORP Refinery in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. This expansion is a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and TotalEnergies. The project is strategically crucial, as it aims to transform internally produced refinery off-gases, naphtha, ethane, and natural gasoline into higher value chemicals, thus enhancing the refinery's output and efficiency.

Initial phases include detailed engineering and procurement planning. This phase involves the design of the butadiene extraction unit, olefin extraction unit, methyl tert-butyl ether unit, butadiene selective hydrogenation unit, second-stage pygas hydrogenation unit, and benzene & toluene extraction unit, along with two polyethylene units and the associated logistics facilities. Following the design phase, materials and equipment are sourced, ensuring they meet the required specifications and standards for the project. The construction phase involves the physical building of the units and facilities, requiring coordination of multiple contractors and adherence to strict timelines and safety protocols. This final phase includes rigorous testing and commissioning of the units to ensure they operate efficiently and safely before full-scale operations commence.

The project's completion will significantly bolster Saudi Arabia's petrochemical industry, contributing to the country's economic diversification efforts under Vision 2030. For the customer, SATORP, this expansion means increased production capacity and the ability to produce higher value chemicals from refinery by-products, enhancing profitability and operational efficiency.

The project is committed to maintaining high HSE standards. This includes rigorous safety protocols during construction and operation to prevent accidents and environmental impacts. The involvement of experienced engineers and specialists aims to ensure that all phases of the project adhere to international safety and environmental standards.
