The contract was awarded in January 2006 through an international competitive bidding to the Consortium formed by Tecnimont as a Leader and the Korean SK Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd.

The plant, under UOP (USA) License, processes 2.5 Mt/y of full range naphtha to produce aromatics.

The Client, Kuwait Paraxylene Production Company (KPPC), controlled by the State owned Petrochemical Industries Company (P.I.C.) appointed Bechtel Ltd. as Project Managing Contractor of the Project.

The Aromatics Complex is located within the Shuaiba Industrial Area which is approximately 40 Kilometres South of Kuwait City and represented one of the major projects in the Middle East area at the time of the start-up, in December 2008.

The scope of work included Engineering, Procurement and Subcontracting services, Procurement and delivery of the materials and Construction activities up to the Mechanical Completion.
