Tecnimont has been awarded a FEED contract by Fortescue for a green ammonia plant located in the Nordgulen fjord, Norway. This pioneering project will leverage Norway's abundant hydropower resources to produce green ammonia, contributing significantly to the decarbonization of various industries, particularly shipping.

One of the main challenges is integrating advanced technologies to ensure efficient and continuous production. Unlike intermittent renewable energy sources, hydropower offers stable energy, simplifying the plant's operation but requiring precise engineering to maximize efficiency and reliability. Another challenge is developing infrastructure for the seamless storage and shipment of green ammonia, ensuring it reaches domestic and European markets effectively.

For Norway, this project is a major step toward its green energy goals, leveraging the country's hydropower capabilities. It aligns with both Norwegian and European objectives to accelerate the green energy market, particularly by providing a sustainable fuel alternative for hard-to-abate industries like shipping. For Fortescue, this project strengthens their portfolio in green technologies and enhances their commitment to sustainability.

The project adheres to stringent environmental and safety standards, ensuring minimal impact on the local environment while promoting renewable energy use. The stable energy supply from hydropower reduces the risks associated with energy fluctuations, enhancing overall safety and operational efficiency.
