BAYTOWN CHEMICAL EXPANSION
PROJECT Tecnimont leads a consortium to build process units at ExxonMobil's Baytown complex, including a 400,000 t/y Vistamaxx™ polymer unit and a 350,000 t/y alpha olefins unit, using Advanced Work Packaging for efficiency.Polymers
LAO
Tecnimont is leading the consortium with Performance Contractors, a US-based general contractor with a strong track record in the area, for the realization of process units and associated offsites and utilities for Exxon Mobil Corporation’s (ExxonMobil) Baytown petrochemical complex, located about 25 miles east of Houston, Texas, USA.
The Baytown facility is the largest integrated petrochemical complex in the U.S. and is one of the most technologically advanced refining and petrochemical complexes in the world.
The scope of work includes the implementation of new innovative process units, including a 400,000 tons/yr Vistamaxx™ performance polymer unit, producing higher level of elastic, soft and flexible products that grant reduction in materials used and increased performance. The scope of work also envisages the implementation of a 350,000 tons/yr linear alpha olefins unit producing liquid chemicals used in numerous high-end applications.
This first project with ExxonMobil is an opportunity to apply our knowledge and technical expertise to provide innovative solutions, among all, the application of Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) methodology since the early FEED stages. This allowed the digitalization of our work and the integration of the information from different systems, improving data availability, increasing productivity, improving schedule certainty, and reducing costs.
THE BAYTOWN FACILITY IS THE LARGEST INTEGRATED PETROCHEMICAL COMPLEX IN THE U.S. AND IS ONE OF THE MOST TECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED REFINING AND PETROCHEMICAL COMPLEXES IN THE WORLD.
