Mangalore (India), March 25, 2021 – Today our Group signed an agreement with the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Surathkal, India, to establish the interdisciplinary research centre “Maire Tecnimont Centre for Research on Waste Recycling and Circular Economy”. This partnership will enforce our commitment to high-level research for the energy transition.
Thanks to the research centre and scholarships for 16 students provided by Maire Tecnimont, young people from low-income backgrounds will have the opportunity to draw on the skills of our Group, and we can leverage on the high-level of research carried out by the institute and further support the trainees in their development and career paths.
Over the last year, “Maire Tecnimont Research Scholarship for Sustainable Development” has achieved many accomplishments: students from NITK, motivated by a strong passion for engineering and environmental issue, worked at the project for the realization of a “Bio-Waste Recycling Pilot Plant”, financially supported by Tecnimont Private Limited and inaugurated today during the signing ceremony of the agreement. The pilot plant will improve energy self-sufficiency within the campus using internal food waste materials as feedstock.
Speaking about the project, Professor Karanam Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of NITK said, "Installing bio waste recycling energy pilot plant will not only inspire students, who will be tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, […], but more importantly will set an example for other corporates to lead the change.”
Empowering young people is an essential part of our Group efforts in Corporate Social Responsibility. Wherever we operate in the world, we play an active role in enhancing local skills and giving back to the communities, building together with them a real economic development and laying the foundations for a more sustainable future.
